What are the boats like?

“Momentum” is a Baltic 47, a performance cruiser made in Finland. Her deep fin and generous sail area keep her quick and lively in all conditions, attributes that will win any sailors heart. She has hydraulic and conventional sail controls, rod rigging and running backstays. Her roller-furling genoa and full-batten main are complimented by a few other sails for heavy or light air. The large-diameter wheel spans the cockpit giving great feel to the helmsperson and allowing ample view of the sails on either side. She has 4 sleeping cabins, most with top and bottom bunks, and two heads. The electronics on board are nothing special, but there is a sat phone and a powerful, if slow, chart plotter with monitors in the cockpit and at the nav station. The generator and watermaker are also worth noting. Distress gear includes a 6-person raft, Epirb, and flares. Between the Virgin Islands, Chesapeake, New England and Bermuda, "Momentum" sails all year long.

The Hylas 54, "Brigadoon," is a very tough, and very comfortable, ocean cruiser with all the bells and whistles, including hydraulic-furling sails. She's cutter rigged and her vertically-battened main furls in-mast. A center cockpit allows for a very nice interior design, which consists of two forward cabins and one aft. Gear includes generator, watermaker, chart plotters, radar, SSB, sat phone, liferaft, Epirb and more. Passage opportunities aboard boats as nice as “Brigadoon” are very rare pleasures.

"Gratitude," another Hylas 54, is quite similar to "Brigadoon," although she's one year younger.

The Catalina 470, "We Be Jazzin," is spacious cruiser with a new Leisure Furl system and new sails. She sports a genset, SSB, chart plotters, and sat phone, as well as a Givens 6-man raft, and EPIRB. "Sea-Walker," a spacious and generously-equipped 61-foot cutter, has a generator, SSB, plotter, radar, liferaft and EPIRB. Combined with her captain who is a fantastic instructor, she offers a rare experience in sailing instruction. The luckiest crews will enjoy the company of his wife who is a gourmet cook.
